Our Story

In the age before maps, a girl was born on the cold shores of the North. Her father, the eldest of the tribe, gave her the strongest name he knew.

"You are Ikalene," he said. "Carry it with you always."

She grew curious. She grew restless. And one grey morning, she sailed away. The sea rose against her. The sky turned black. Lesser ships turned back.

"I am Ikalene," she said, and sailed into the storm.

Days passed. The water was black, the wind louder than any voice she had ever known. She thought, perhaps, she was the only one left in the world.

Then the storm broke, and a strange shore rose ahead.

She stepped off the boat into words she could not speak and faces she did not know. But everywhere she landed, a fire was already burning. Everywhere she wandered, someone called her to the table.

She had crossed the world thinking herself alone, and found, instead, that she never was.

When she returned, the tribe gathered on the shore, warm bread and open arms.

"What did you find out there?" they asked.

She looked back at the wide world behind her and smiled.

"I found that I am Ikalene," she said. "And so is everyone."
